Clean-up with Bowling Green Riverfront Foundation
Today I roused early blasting off from Frankfort down the Bluegrass Parkway and I-65 to join 10 amazing Kentuckians with a heart for stewardship including EKI volunteers, Shara Sumner and Jessica Crafton to participate in a riverfront clean-up hosted by our partner Bowling Green Riverfront Foundation (BGRF). BGRF Board Member Maria Burnett and President Clinton Lewis lead our crew in cleaning up the riverfront property adjacent to Mitch McConnell Park, a small area apart of the proposed Barren River Outdoor Center. Forty bags of trash were collected as part of the fruits of our labor, including a syringe ( which we made sure was disposed of in a proper manner), a Bible, a wallet with ID enclosed, and the remnants of a homeless encampment.
As outdoor recreational enthusiasts we feel its not only just important to promote rad places to explore, but also to be proactive stewards of our environments. Please make sure to follow our calendar of events that will feature a broad array of opportunities to be part of conservation efforts in 2017 across the commonwealth!
