The Annual Pine Mountain Summit Challenge is back again this year! Letcher County's staple cycling event will take place August 26th, 2017. This one-of-kind race will feature multiple routes for different skill levels and competitiveness! A kid's ride will also be available this year! Best bring your climbing' legs, as the most challenging route will finish with a 6.2 mile ascent to the very top of scenic Pine Mountain. The demanding climb of Ol' Pine will be sure to leave your leg's shakin' and heart racin' while inspiring along the way with beautiful overlooks and views!
Pre-Registration and Course Info;
All races will begin on East Main Street in downtown Whitesburg, Ky.
The PMSC will consist of 3 categories for cyclists of all types!
- Kids Route (no age limitation)
- Race Start Time: 8:30 a.m.
- Distance: 2 -3 miles
- Fee: $10 Preregistration includes entry fee and free t-shirt. $10 entry fee on the day of the race! Tees may not be available without preregistration.
- Course Info: Our downtown tour route, led by the Letcher Co. Cycling Club, will travel from downtown Whitesburg and loop around Jenkins Road back to town and onto the Tanglewood Trail, lapping at Whitesburg Elem. School then back, making a fun and safe ride for all ages.
- Short Route:
- Race Start: 9 A.M
- Distance: 17 miles
- Fee: $25 preregistration includes a free t-shirt! $30 registration the day of the race.
- Course Info: This challenging route will give riders the opportunity to climb Pine, pedaling through Whitco (931) and Little Cowan (2035) to Hwy 119 to the very top of Pine Mountain. The race will end at the entrance to Little Shepard Trail but the fun won't have to end! Riders will coast home via 119 directly back to town where they will be met with refreshment. Awards ceremony following the conclusion of the Long Route Race!
- Long Route (Masters 50+, Junior U18, Open Mens, and Open Womens)
- Race Start: 9 a.m.
- Distance: 44 miles
- Fee: $25 preregistration includes a free t-shirt! $30 registration the day of the race.
- Course Info: This beast of a rally will take riders directly through Sandlick and over Little Colley toward Premium where the North Fork River will lead cyclists to Kings Creek, eventually meeting Cowan Mountain. After a relieving decent down Cowan, it's back to ascending at Little Cowan up to the final finish at Pine's peak. The race ends at 37 miles but then riders coast back to town, a chill 7 miles back to Whitesburg for food and the awards ceremony.
